It has been decided that John Dewey public high school will have permanent metal detectors starting Monday October 19, 2009. The process will be just like that of airport scanning. The students will not be allowed to bring any electronic device or any liquid bottles. No glass bottles allowed. I believe there will be even less students going to school if this were to happen. The reason being, the students feel that they are going to prison instead of going to school for education. At this rate, there will be more students cutting schools and less students going to school. It also affect the students who have jobs afterschool and have to go home late in the evening, when there might be danger lurking around and no way to phone for help. It also affect parents, who wish to know where their children are and how they're doing, when they can't get in contact with their kids. A school should be about learning, exploring, and experiences. Not about feeling confined or feeling resentment. In my opinion, metal detectors are a good thing to have to keep the children safe as long as the children can bring their electronic devices to school.
