A former member , 3 months ago | FlagThis wall builder must not be a real contractor
, or he would have known to get a variance and permit first. He must have been a real cracker-ja ck with Legos as a kid! The neighbor has more patience than anyone I know. If I opened my window to concrete I would have turned into Janezilla!
And I guarantee; the wall would have been down already! Jane
terithecook, 3 months ago | FlagTo be honest, I think it's crazy that this has gone on as long as it has. I have a friend that lives on the block and she warned me how bad it was, but until you see it in person you can't get it. Cunningham
(the homeowner) has no considerat ion for anyone but himself -- if he wanted a bigger home buy a house on a bigger piece of property. It's bad enough that the city let this go on as long as it has, but I have to believe that it won't be much longer. And I want to be there the day that wall has to come down.
Thanks for keeping us up to date John.
Toyandgadgetguy, 6 months ago | FlagNazis? Swastikas? Lynch Trials? Wow... go to extremes much?
Somewhere in that non-sense you're spewing, you mention rights and the law. What about the Gershon's rights? They've a right to live safely, and not have a neighbor endangering their well being. That house is just too close for the sake of safety. There just isn't enough room for a person to get out of either house from where they're abutting.
What about the other clown obeying the law? He had to be told to stop THREE times. That's two times too many.
You want to talk about individuals, how about the individual responsibility of being a good neighbor, and member of the community.
If you want to build your own little castle, without having to worry about neighbors, then get a piece of property where building that castle won't enfringe upon the quality of life of others.
People today just don't care enough.

Sorry, I did not read all the comments. It sounds like bunch of Nazis gathering! Does anyone in this country still think that individuals have RIGHTS? I read this and smell – Iran?!? Thank you, John. As reward – go and get yourself a tattoo. Swastikas, may be?

May be it is the time that court and the law take the precedent over sleazy reporters trying to make a cheap name. The construction in New York is well regulated. However, we have a great history of the Lynch trials. Let’s do that. Let’s allow the community to judge and execute anyone they disagree with! Who cares about the law anyway? The cheap fame is so much more attractive!
Ticia, 6 months ago | FlagI just wanted you to know that despite your story which aired on Tues. night, May 12, and the 3 stop work orders, Mr. Cunningham
and two 'helpers' were working on the property drilling a hole into the concrete BENEATH the cinderbloc k wall against the Gershons' house with a 4 or 5 inch drill bit. So you see how he disregards not only the neighbors but legal decisions as well.
oldschoolbrooklyn, 6 months ago | FlagI was born in Bay Ridge and my Dad's family owned the house that the wall is up against. I spent every Sunday in that house having dinner with my family and can not believe this has happened. I think it is such a disgrace. I have such fond memories of the house and the neighborho
od and can not believe that this wall is still standing. Such beautiful light used to come through those stained glass windows. I can't imagine having a view of a concrete wall. I am glad you did this story and I hope you continue to push and get this wall torn down. Good luck!
john9, 6 months ago | Flagthe self-cert, he could probably self-suck too, has been terminated because of all the corrupt business practices. this is my recollection from 2008.
to address this issue, take a bottle of johnnie black, attach a dew rag and toss it like a baseball. right where the i-beam meets RC support, so that the intense heat will melt the steel and collapse the wall into his lot, completely in one motion.
as the late great yes sir arafet said, "one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter". no more inspections, no more criminal complaints, we all know the nypd is a bunch of skum self-sucking alcoholics.
the right to bear arms shall not be abridged, now who said that, oh yeah, another terrorist, or was he a freedom fighter? gee i don't know, i guess it is in the eyes of the beholder. in this case, all the roman catholics care about is souls, the more the merrier.
so i say bomb his ass, fire bomb him like we did in places like vietnam, loas, cambodia, iraq 1, iraq 2, afghanistan, pakistan, places like that.
oh yeah, make sure you wait for the oil delivery truck so it can be blamed on arab oil.
good luck
photopuppy, 6 months ago | FlagWell, well, well! I just posted a comment on this awful wall and mentioned how palms might be "greased".
Isn't that special that Mr. Cunningham has connection s to the DOB. Someone please look into how this maniac got any of his plans approved and name names. Perhaps we can have someone build structures right up against their house too!
Johndeutzman, 6 months ago | FlagI appreciate
all the comments, keep them coming in. If anybody has a creative way to solve this problem quick, please let us know.
bayridge8714, 6 months ago | FlagCongratula
tions Fox News on airing this sad story. I think the picture of Cunningham refusing to comment to the reporter said it all. From everything that I have read on this problem, Cunningham 's wall is illegal. The fact that he apparently works for the DOB seems tragically convenient . The lovely people next door have been tormented for about two years. Where are the politician s on this matter. When will justice prevail. Mr. Cunningham
, tear down this wall!
Johndeutzman, 6 months ago | Flagthis project was one of those "self certified"
jobs. That simply means the city relies on the architect to do what is legal and safe. at some point in the process the city said hold on here and stopped work.
the city eventually
charged him criminally . as far as safety goes, there is a possibilty
that the weight of the new project is actually pushing down on the footing of the neighbors house. this could lead to structural problems and a safety issue.
photopuppy, 6 months ago | FlagThe wall is an abominatio
n! This problem only mirrors the problem we've been having as a community here in north Queens. Tear it down, and start enforcing the law! We should all come together as a community and prevent underminin g of zoning laws.
Toyandgadgetguy, 6 months ago | FlagWhat about safety? God forbid there was ever a fire... how would anyone on that side of the house get out?
me.yahoo.com/a/wezy7oNjnNfALSrJL1MSRjN2FSjyBA--, 6 months ago | FlagFirst of all, how can Building Department
approve this project? As per building code, the floor ratio doesn't allow you to building up against the property line, and specially in Bay Ridge, NY. The set back are provide space between houses and prevent this situation from happening. Unless "Mr. Cummingham " wanted more and go against the law and the BLDG code. The wall should be demolish ASAP by "Mr. Cummingham ", and he doesn't do it. Then the NYC Building Department should take action and demo this wall.
Johndeutzman, 6 months ago | FlagI guess the city can continue to press on with the criminal charges, he could wind up in jail for failing to obey the Dept. of Building's
orders. and if it continues maybe we could try to chat with mr. cunningham
again.
TheCrackedSky, 6 months ago | FlagThe wall is disgusting
and so is the man who put it up. Tear the wall DOWN!! What happened to zoning laws? Only 2 inches of space next to this poor family's house? That has to be a safety hazard. Someone's palm is being greased. It's a pity that neighborho ods are being destroyed house by house because of the lack of control over building permits.
ahawkins09, 6 months ago | FlagI completely
sympathize . Just because there is nothing on the books- it shouldn't mean you have nothing against the guy who wants to build a wall *2* inches from your house! That's outrageous . Why would he want to be so close to your building anyway?!? What a complete jerk!

Toyandgadgetguy, 6 months ago | FlagJust saw your piece on the wall. It's no wonder that man hid himself from the cameras. He knows he's wrong. What innocent person runs from simple questions?
Talk about enfringing
on another person's quality of life...! Hopefully something will be done about this soon, and that man gets what he deserves for constructi
ng a monstrosit y such as that!
