Yesterday at 5:00 p.m. K Rock was gone and NYC welcome in a second CHR format radio station. I'm sorry to see K Rock go. I would tune in on occasion, and you know a lot of people will miss O&A.
But I'm happy that there is a second top 40 station. The station started off by letting Z100 know that NOW will be going right after them and that number one slot Z has. I have friends at Z100, but it will be nice to see Z100 in general have some competition and step up their game. Truly proving that they are number 1. Also it's nice as a listener to have another choice. Next step the personalities. Can't wait to hear those.
What do you think?
Growing up watching "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched," I learned that if you have magical powers you can be in two places at once.
Based on the paperwork we obtained, it appears the firefighter in our investigation was in two places at the same time.
Taxpayers were paying him to be a Deputy Chief in North Hudson Regional but time sheets at the Bergen County Fire Academy show him working for them on the very same days he is on duty at North Hudson. There are three possible explanations:
1. Sloppy Paperwork: He claims the Fire Academy was adding hours to his time sheets for extra work he did on a special project. He was pointing the finger at the Academy's bookkeeping procedures.
2. Double Dipping: Getting paid from two sources at once without any reasonable explanation. This could become a criminal matter.
3. Magical Powers: I think Jeannie used to "Blink" and Samantha used to "Twitch" her nose to be in two places at once.
I would love to hear your thoughts.
John
We began this investigation more than two years ago. Back then, a whistleblower provided Fox 5 and the NYC Department of Investigation ample evidence that Allan Patricof, a parking ticket judge, had some strange log-in sheets. The log-in sheets are supposed to indicate when a person arrives at work, goes to lunch and leaves work and the sheets are usually strictly monitored by the city. Insiders were accusing Patricof of cheating on his time sheets. If that proved true, he was looking at serious criminal charges.
The investigation speaks for itself. We still offer the Department of Finance the opportunity to show us proof of exactly what work Alan Patricof did at home or in his car. We also would love to see the Finance Department's independent audit of Patricof's hours. The city's Department of Investigation still has a chance to show us why they backed off this case and why their investigation failed to mention that Alan's wife, Rochelle, was the number two person in charge of the Department of Finance.
This one could have gotten ugly for Patricof. He could have been charged with altering city records and grand larceny if D.O.I. felt they had probable cause that he cheated the city. Instead they turned it over to Martha Stark, the head of finance who decided Patricof did nothing wrong.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
The past few years have been insanely busy for me, but with new adventures and incredible opportunities around every corner, I can’t complain! My latest project, a still unnamed restaurant in the new Viceroy Miami, has got me thinking about all of the ventures I have had here in my hometown, New York.
After opening seven restaurants in the past ten years—Bellini, davidburke and donatella, Ama, Dona, Anthos, Mia Dona , and Kefi—I am making my first venture out of the city. Next month my partner Michael and I will be opening our first restaurant in Miami – and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Although finding a name is proving to be trickier then I thought, everything else is well on its way to being beyond spectacular. The restaurant is located on the 15th floor of a newly built hotel designed by Kelly Wearstler, whom I have been a big fan of for a long time. In fact, my restaurant Dona was inspired by her design aesthetic. Of course no Miami restaurant would be complete without beautiful outdoor seating. Ours is surrounded by a massive pool deck with a panoramic view of downtown Miami designed by Phillipe Stark.
With all my restaurants in Manhattan I have been travelling between NYC and Miami frequently, and with the very cold city winter I didn’t mind! As I begin to spend more time away from home to prepare for the upcoming opening in Miami, and now that I am getting the first glimpses of sun in city, I am getting nostalgic for my favorite spots and what I will miss most about my New York.
FOOD (come on you knew that had to be my focus):
I am very fortunate to eat and experience food not only throughout New York, but also in my travels. But, my partner Michael and I agree that nobody comes close to New York as a culinary Mecca of the world - especially when it comes to Asian food. Nothing gives me more pleasure then going to some of my favorite sushi bars and to sit and let the chef give me an "omakas" tasting.
One of my insider favorites for Japanese are Yasuda; hard to get in and they are very strict about reservations, but well worth it. When you are looking for the freshest, most pristine sashimi this is where you should go.
On the Upper East Side there is the most non descript typical sushi place a friend recommended to me. When I first arrived I wanted to leave, but looks can be deceiving! This is one of these secrets no one knows about. Well, no one until now! The old man, Mr. Meado, and his young non-Asian apprentice who run the kitchen are beyond talented. I call them a couple days before I go and usually they will fly in special ingredients just for me. The old timer is proud and passionate and a real magician with uni, which is my all time favorite thing in the world! He sears it, makes it into a powder, or just serves it as is.
For Chinese there is only one stop you need to make; Joes Shanghais for dumplings!
For burgers, I love J.G. Melons. It isn’t too big and doesn’t try to be gourmet. Their burgers top the list and it is also a great late-night chef hangout - didn’t you know chefs love junk food?
For old school, classic Italian I go two blocks away from my restaurant Mia Dona to Fiorini on 56th St. The homemade foccaccia smothered with mascarpone, is to die for, followed by a veal parmigiani (that’s right, I just crave it every once in while), and their classic dessert, the Neapolitan Baba Fiorini – it is the best in the city. I would be remiss not to mention one tiny fact… it’s my dad’s restaurant! I don’t want you to think I am shamelessly plugging, although I am allowed, he is my dad after all! But honestly, he is the master of this style cuisine - what can I say, I learned from the best!
For pizza, head to Luzzos on the Lower East Side. It is the closest thing to Naples I have found and the dough is magical.
For a great café latte and a pastry (every one has to indulge once in a while!) I head to the Upper East Side to Payard. Their chocolate croissants are ridiculously delicious.
NIGHTLIFE
Once my belly is full and I’m ready to hit the town I head to the Meatpacking District. It is young and hip and hands down the place to be. My favorite is the rooftop of the Gansevort Hotel – there is no comparison.
BEAUTY
Finally, everyone needs the little affordable indulgences that I call “me time.” It isn’t until I leave New York that I realize what a steal my twenty-five dollar mani-pedis are! Well located on every other Manhattan block, I can pop in whenever I need an escape from the busy life of a restaurateur. Also, most chain hair salons in New York offer twenty-five dollar blowouts, even for my long tresses! I love to splurge on good food and good fun and soak up the simple treats New York has to offer whenever I can.
Hey Everyone, Lately, we've all been rockin the latest fashion trends - boots with the fur, coats with the trim and scarves with a little extra frinige - but if you're one of the many people wondering when winter will finally be over, you're not alone. In my profession, I hear it all the time, "It's too cold"; "When is it going to warm up?"; or my favorite...."Can't you do something about this weather?" While I do enjoy experiencing the different seasons, I don't want anymore oatmeal! Believe me, there's nothing wrong with a nice bowl of warm oatmeal...you can easily add bananas, strawberries or a little extra honey to turn it up a notch. This time of year, however, oatmeal makes me think of the cold weather and I don't know about you, but I'm ready for spring! This winter we've had numerous arctic invasions that keep the cold air pouring into our area. So far this winter, the month of January has been the coldest. Here are the numbers: In December of 2007, the monthly average for daytime highs was 41.6 degrees. In 2008, the monthly average for December was 44.9 degrees. In January of 2008, the monthly average was 42.4 degrees, while this year, the monthly average dropped to 33.5 degrees. In February of 2008, the monthly average was 43.1 degrees. So far this year, the monthly average is 44.0 degrees. We'll see what if that changes by the end of the month. So, yes! We were off to a cold start this winter in comparison to the relatively mild winter last year. If you need a break, here's the cold fact: we've got less than a month to go before we kickstart the spring season. In the meantime, if you are looking for a way to fight the winter blues and recharge your solar battery, experts say the key is an extra dose of sunlight. In other words, do something that wakes your body up; get out of the house and hang out with friends. My favorite is exercise! If that doesn't work, you can always walk on the sunny side of the street. talk soon, Melissa
I just finished Twilight. I've been reading this book since January. It doesn't normally take me this long to read a book, I couldn't find the time to do it, and when I did it was hard for me to get into it. I kept thinking about the movie. After I got over that I was reading it more and put the movie aside. I feel disappointed that the movie left out so many important points. Like Carlisle's history, how Alice and the hunter are connected. And we all know this happens a lot. It's hard to stay true to the book and not make the movie so long. So when teachers say read the book don't watch the movie I know what they mean. You do cheat yourself.
There are some movies that do try to be true the book and do a good job. Harry Potter is one. (I have to brush up on the Half Blood Prince, I forgot what happens) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest..great book/movie. I really liked Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, couldn't put it down. So I'm hoping the movie is good, I will be so upset if it's not. I can't say anything about DaVinci Code, because I wasn't crazy about the book to begin with. The story did seem to match.
How come no one has made the R.L. Stein books Fear Stinto movies, remember those? We had the show Goosebumps on Fox. The books were great.
Next book Golden Compass, I liked the movie. And I will read New Moon before the movie. We will see how that goes.

my comment: Great Sex, God's way! How great a concept this is for you! The bliss and information dissemination of married people on how they can prosper is to be encouraged! I wish marital happiness for all singles wanting passionately to marry the spouse of theirs and God's dreams in anticipation expectation! Sex is great inside marriage and beautiful but through Christ the context is in marriage still and first by starting a relationship with God for His blessing as well. Dave C.

Four way stop signs have become a sport in my neighborhood! Every morning on my way to the gym, I drop my wife off at her office and like it or not find myself smack dab in the middle of crazed little mommies driving their offspring to school!
Why these cute little mommies see the need to drive HUGE SUV’S, is way beyond me. And they do it while talking on their cell phones yet! I kid you not, it’s very scary!
To make it even more scary a lot of them are in bathrobes with their hair up in curlers drinking coffee from a travel cup! Try to get the picture…MONSTER TRUCKS….teeny mommies …with attitude yet!
Now most people don’t know that when you drive up to a four way corner, the vehicle on the right, has the right of way…. So here’s the problem, when you are at a four way corner you ARE one of the vehicles on the right! It depends on your point of view.
Once again I’m dealing with a MONSTER TRUCK RALLY! Somehow they all manage to crisscross each other without colliding and yet these very same women destroy shopping carts while backing out of parking spots! I don’t get it!
I’m not five foot nothing, I’m six foot one and I don’t feel the need to drive one of these monstrosities! I drive a Jeep Cherokee! It’s nowhere near as big as their SUV’S, so around them I feel like a hockey puck!
I’m thrilled when the morning rush is over and have sanctuary until after school when these very same women become soccer moms!! With even MORE attitude!
Won’t somebody please help me???
It’s a well known fact among my friends and family that I love books. I love to read them, collect them, re-read them and talk about them. Books have inspired me to travel, seek love and adventure, write, make friends and explore the world in which we all live. Through books, I’ve lived thousands of other lives, experienced different times and participated in amazing events. While reading books, I’ve gained wisdom, courage, knowledge, understanding and compassion. Via the printed page, I’ve been to every corner of our globe and gone beyond the boundaries of our solar system. I’ve strutted my way across the stage to the words of Shakespeare and Miller and sung the lyrics of Gilbert & Sullivan until my throat was sore. I can’t even imagine a life without words and books.
Today, I am remembering one particular author, one of my favorites, who passed away with little fanfare on October 26, 2008. He was an extraordinary person who lived an extraordinary life. He was a veteran of World War II who served bravely in the 103rd Infantry Division. During his military service, he was awarded the Bronze and Silver Star and the Purple Heart. After the war, he worked as a journalist for 14 years, earning a masters degree in journalism during that time.
Eventually, he went on to teach journalism at the University of New Mexico for over 20 years. During that time, he began his writing career with what would become one of the most successful series of mystery novels in the history of modern fiction. Who was this man, you ask? He was born on May 27, 1925 and his name was Anthony Grove Hillerman. You may know him as Tony Hillerman, the author of over 30 books, including his famous Navajo Mystery series. I would highly recommend heading down to your local library or bookstore and grabbing one of his novels. Through his writing, he is still very much alive.
Timeless truth<click here first..Someone on the blog wrote recently that they believed in little green men that were aliens who gave us heritage on the planet. This is my response:click here second>The Victor by Keith Green
The Word of God and I are on firm ground when I say God created man in His image and though Adam and Eve had a fall and disobeyed God's command to not eat the one fruit God said no to, man was still made in God's image. Even today this very moment the image is there and I can see in the unknown for me on my plate to believe the intelligent aspects of design of Father God our Creator, love shown in it, and long-hearted patience of God Sovereignly Appointed for a time based on the intelligent, emotional, metaphysical (gifts), and spiritual sides of man I have observed, and intervention from Abba Daddy God in my life and that of others.
But even dream aspects of human man of our Utopia or Shangri-la theoretically from one generation to the next in life are in the offing if we're believing God or else competing in an angry and conflicted buildup sinful nature tyrrany and the tyrrany of sinful nature within onesself. One's conscience then in hearing the plans of God revealed can turn up the heat on your own or bring victory. There is freedom however in knowing God and for sure in certainness. This belief in God the Personal Being which is in the Bible being believing of forgiveness of sins to be literally right in God's sight for us and man in general, is deliverance. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned abiding in the Son and spiritual laws, like laws of viscosity and momentum are either observed in science in a laboratory or learned as an education from textbooks. Vices or addiction like sins of the spirit can make the soul sick. People tend to want to run away from their consciences rather than toward the spiritual answer. But a reasonable explanation is we have a sinful nature that sins readily that must be dealt with. We know God's command to never look upon evil because He cannot look upon it. He is Holy and requires holiness. But what if God satisfied His own demands for Holiness at the Cross 2000 yeas ago. He wants us to excersize obedience &, discretion in regard specificly to disputable matters, now in knowing evil from afar: from a distance because we've become saved and truly want to know right from life not 'right from wrong' now especially. God dealt with the 'wrong' part on the Cross for Christians. As Christians we get spiritual food, excersize, and cleansing from Jesus, the tree of life.
Special revelation from the Bible itself has authority from God for us to know God in accurate knowledge of God precisely & correctly. It's a lifetime process to stumble upon Who He Is. It's a sure thing and with solid sureness being saved. But knowing God in His fullness is good yet we're not complete in knowledge in some whole sense until we see Him in Heaven when we shall know even as we're known now, a small vital cog in God's Army, Kingdom and glory. God reveals Himself to us from faith to faith, hope to hope, glory to glory, love to love (within us) that He and I may fellowship (have koinonia.) This is Great Good News as it has been known in nature to seek Him for salvation and know Him for that if we look back at it and His Son our Savior being revealed in us and through our consciences to submit to Him today. In our spirit we're fed Bread by Him as Christians, to walk with Him.
God spoke and creation, bang, it happened Genesis chapters one, two. He created through the Son, (Col.1:16) the Second Person in the Godhead, of whom He (God) made a little lower than the angels until all His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. Note the Capitals I use indicating a Divinity to His Only Begotten Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Even that Name in Genesis chapter one for God is plural, Elohim, indicating a Trinity in Unity in the Godhead.)
I pray you find the Lord Jesus Christ satisfactory as your God-man and He, Lord and Master of you He becomes & He personally becomes your Savior from sin, and you, become the Friend of God, a part of His Family. For we need to have our sins forgiven taken away (Jesus=God's scapegoat and sin offering both) because God has helped by becoming a Substitute for both things spiritually and He adopts and justifies mankind forgiving redeeming us freely and we need to have an assurance that we have acquired this forgiveness from God sins taken away born again in a standing we will have from God. We need God first, confess that we're sinners who've disobeyed His Laws and then ask for His forgiveness for sin(s) & finding forgiveness we're saved at that moment. We've repented of all known sin at that moment and for the rest of our life accepted by His Blood follow Jesus Christ by grace accepting God's authority for what He has done for us on the cross individually yet through faith personally, in a recent standing with God. We're not perfect yet but forgiven. We'll still sin firstly. But in the light where truth reigns God has made intimate knowledge of Himself primary to be now Reigner-Reagent within you to change you by 'much more' grace in your surrender in Him firstly in making Jesus Lord. Your real life is hid with Christ in God and you can't make sin a habit because there is a case in scripture for perfection of yourself after being saved if you want it (for instance like Caleb or Joshua.)
Do you want this? You can have this Zoe (God kind of) Life, not bios (ordinary mundane life,) (that sins deliberately and is disgustingly displeasing to God.) The new life of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, etc. will manifest profusely to God. For it's a transformed life not a reformed one. God promises to bring to pass what He starts in you. We'll fail in corporeal punishment in time but in prayer find the right words and action to repent accepting God's forgiveness. We need God's plan and direction of the Word for that. This is subsequent to salvation and found in I John 1:7,8,9;2:1. You learn further on in becoming Christ's disciple the importance of careful treatment of the Holy Spirit, Risen Christ in you, and of our Lord and Redeemer's Blood we should have an unending perfect acceptance of it. For we're accepted in the Beloved by Him. In acceptance of being of the Beloved, the Family of God and belonging to God and being His, we HAVE 'the goods.' This is truly awesome to have an eternal inheritance.
We own the accepting with God's aid of what Christ has done for us on the Blood He shed way back on Calvary on a transformation we received of a taking away our sins and substitution of our faith in His Finished Work is another way of saying it. This is a positional aspect. We become in a right standing in God before God. We're saved, seated in heavenly places in Christ.
It's New Birth God calls us all to and for repentance to occur on our part. Now this is where justification becomes activational (repentance = our part.) It's a onehundredeighty degree change of mind and heart about sin by us. Sin is finished in turning to God and death dominated. We find so much God will produce the Christian life a finished product in us at that Day(our Resurrected Physical Body)(or us in Heaven completely a done task on that Resurrection Day as another way of saying it), that you live and die with the Lord in hearing the still small Voice of God in the Holy Spirit's turning on justification's windshield wipers swinging back and forth. For you believe the Bible and its literal position in certainty and in the literal interpretation most of its contents signifies with significance, and confess you're a sinner who NOW sees the grace to salvation in God's eyes through His Son and His love for you with subsequent acceptance from God by faith in Jesus Christ and are saved. And you are then a witness to that fact that you'll accept life by this new identifying with Jesus Christ in faith-trust through grace and God's indiscriminate and unconditional love for you. Practically activationally speaking given God loves you all the time, you learn to determinedly doggedly decide vehemently to practice His mercy, you become His disciples, and not turn back from following Christ. You're joined to the side of truth for you're on God's side then. You see God can only save you if you accept for yourself His Son's Blood spilt for you in a decision to make a U-turn from where you are to follow the Resurrected Christ's Spirit. Think of God's sight judging sin and putting the punishment we deserved on His Son. Like a good Father would judge his son or daughters behavior to improve it so God sees us 'in His Son' when we accept that Death on the Cross as our payment before God to be saved and get to go to Heaven. As a good Father winnows away bad corn or wheat with His winnowy fork in His Hand so does our Heavenly Father God only He allows us to play a part whether to help others become born again or our own selves to be saved, we come in faith. God chooses to be just and show His justice on pouring out His wrath on His Son instead of us if we take faith to believe and accept that Payment for ourselves. That 'if' becomes the condition on the promises God requires, simply our participation. God chose this way to confound the wise, the disputer of this world's wisdom and save the ignoble who are born again God's way to be saved.
One of the coolest things I've ever experienced happened over the weekend.
I attended the NYPD Desi Society's 'Spring Fling.' Just about anyone who is anyone in the New York City Police Department was there. Dr. Sapna Parikh, the Mistress of Ceremonies (and my friend and co-worker,) invited me so I had to dress the part!- literally:

Desi means 'of the homeland.' The Desi Society represents South Asians within the NYPD. It's the first fraternal law enforcement organization of its kind.
From the Indian garb I wore, to the bindi on my forehead (bindi represents the 'third eye' or the eye that looks within) I felt so cool! Someone even told me I looked like a Bollywood actress!! I was flattered to say the least.
But beyond the glitz and glamour (did I mention DJ Rehka was in attendance? She's only been called one of the most influential Indians in the country!) the fun-filled night was also a milestone for the NYPD. The Desi society- an organization that was formed less than three years ago in a basement- has blossomed into a fully recognized club representing south Asians in law enforcement.
There were several moving speeches as Desi members and other leaders of the NYPD were honored for their achievements.
NY's Finest (and boy are they fine!) lived up to their reputation. Like the city it protects, the NYPD is a culturally and ethnically diverse organization. I was proud to watch as it gave a segment of its population the recognition they deserve. Congratulations!
May the goodness of God lead you home to the forgiveness of sins and a new relationship with God through Christ!
For anyone who thought a Meet and Greet would be anything but a positive event for MyFoxNY.com, check out all the video I shot. About 40 people showed up to Lucky Strike Lanes And Lounge on Friday evening to Meet and Greet Mike, Ines, Brett, Addison, Brenda, Beth and Me... and we had a blast!
Thank you to all our dedicated viewers and visitors for a fun bowling tournament.... (guess who won the first round?... yup, that would be me ;->)
Video 1:
There's just not enough room for all the Bobs of the world. Bob the Astorian and Big Bad Bob told me why they came out for the Meet and Greet:
Video 2:
Just when you thought Mike Woods was a well rounded individual, check out his bowling skills. What can't he do?
Ines had one of the more "interesting" moments of the night. She managed to get her ball into another lane! Yup, you read that correctly. Wish I had that shot of her. Check out the NY Traffic Authority giving it another go:
This is one of the major reasons I'm loving our 'Meet and Greets'... who needs a DJ, music or a dance floor to dance and have a good time? Not us... check out the video. Go Mike Woods.. Go Mike Woods..
We are a family, after all, SkyFoxHD's Kai Simonsen brought along his wife and daughter... She is too cute...
Brett Larson is a talented man, but bowling isn't his -let's just say- strong point:
And last but not least, there's me with camera woman extraordinaire Brenda! Good camera work!
We should disclose that many years ago, in another time and place, this local TV news executive was asked by a reporter who covers our industry, to comment on which latest high-tech weather technology, including super-amped radar, we preferred for our television newsroom. We responded that in our opinion, sometimes the best forecast comes from looking out the window.
That being said, We are always interested in hearing how viewers candidly speak about local TV News. And especially weather forecasts.
We who work behind the scenes are not instantly identified with the medium. We enjoy our anonymity at times. Especially on the weekend when we overhear conversations like this:
Supermarket clerk: “They messed up the forecast again. They said it was going to rain all weekend.”
Me at checkout counter: “What station were you watching?”
Supermarket clerk: “I can’t remember . They are always wrong.”
Me: “mmmmm”.
We’ve since learned there is not one they-- but there apparently exists a group weather conspiracy to misinform, based on faulty maps, tricky fronts, and a general inability to interpret nature. The they conspiracy is often especially active around the time of holiday weekends, barbeques, and outdoor weddings.
Fortunately, according to the New York Post’s tracking, we seem to get it right more than the other guys: http://www.nypost.com/seven/04052009/news/regionalnews/err_temperatures_162972.htm
So, the next time we hear all about how they messed up, we’ll point out that we scored the most accurate forecast But somehow, when the first raindrops fall on that sunny weekend forecast, we’ll all be part of the they. And then, we’ll look out the window.
TOTUS. Does this word mean anything to you? If you're unsure what that word means, it's an acronym. "The Official Teleprompter of the United States" (TOTUS) is not an official cabinet position -- but an unofficial nickname for the teleprompter President Obama uses during his speeches. And yes, TOTUS blogs and tweets.
People from all over have started logging on to read the "reflections from the hard drive of the machine that enables the voice of the Leader of the Free World." The daily blog is not connected to Pres. Obama and White House officials have said this is not an Obama administration website.
Even though this blog makes a lot of jokes at the expense of the POTUS (President of the United States), it does raise a lot of interesting points about the use of teleprompters.
In the news industry, teleprompters are essential to the delivery of information to the public. They help to ensure that stories are read to the viewers by the anchors -- correctly. If the talent had to memorize every story, it would be almost impossible to get every fact right. You would be surprised how difficult it can be for someone to read a teleprompter without it sounding like they were reading a science textbook about physics (science was never my favorite subject in school).
I don't mind Pres. Obama's use of the teleprompter because I understand the need to relay critical information to the public correctly. However, I wish there was a better place to put TOTUS because the glass screens to the right and left of Mr. Obama always seem to get in the way. TOTUS notoriously blocks the view of someone's face and is quite distracting within the camera shot. I guess I'm not the only person to notice since TOTUS has gotten an upgrade to a large screen now located behind the reporters in the East Room of the White House.
Yep. I'm addicted to my blackberry. But who isn't these days? My blackberry goes everywhere with me. To the gym (it actually sits next to my water bottle as I'm in my spinning class, to the beach (those who have seen my Facebook page will attest to this), to dinner (I try very hard not to check it mid- conversation but will excuse myself to the ladies room where I furiously check to see what is happening since I last looked 20 minutes earlier) , to the car (I do NOT text while driving!) and dare I say it, at my bedside where it will remain all night until I can check it first thing in the morning.
These are clearly signs of someone who needs a Blackberry intervention.
However, it doesn't compare to my newer, shinier obsession: FACEBOOK.
I have 567 friends on Facebook. I personally know about 490 of them. The rest are either friends of friends or people who want to network. In my early days of Facebook I would reject people if I didn't know them – now, I accept everyone as long as they 1) don't seem scary 2) don't IM me at 7 am or in the middle of the night.
By far the greatest thing about Facebook is getting in touch with old friends. Friends who stood with you at the bus stop in elementary school, friends who taught you how to put on lipstick, friends who you met at college freshman orientation, friends who you shared your first apartment with.
These are the friends who "Knew You When".
You can spend hours on Facebook just catching up with these friends. There are pictures to look through – both new and old (80s Hair! Florescent E.G's.! #44 Lipstick!), there are favorite quotes, work info, kids to look at and spouses and significant others to see.
Which brings me to my next favorite feature on Facebook … the "Status Update." Because I have Facebook ON my blackberry (this does NOT help, by the way) I can check my friends status updates throughout the day. In a cab? I'm there. Waiting for a meeting to start? Here I go again.
Scrolling down. Oh – that person STILL has that nagging cold. Wait – so and so is moving to Italy? Wow – my high school boyfriend is expecting twins! Hmmm – how come that person never responded to my email but can update their status that they are about to eat an apple? !
And yes, while it sounds like Facebook is one big distraction, it is really is just a way to stay connected to all of those people who knew you when, who know you now and who you couldn't possibly lose again.
And please. Don't even get me started on Twitter.
Hello Everyone! How's it going? I'm just too glad that this Friday is here. I think it's all this grey weather that has made this week drag by. But it's actually warm outside and I've enjoyed the day so far. Now it's feeling a little more Spring-like around town. But of course there may very well be some more showers and storms before the day is done. I didn't put it in my forecast for nuthin!!
So on Monday, I will be out broadcasting live from Coney Island on the boardwalk. Come on out and see us and get a shoutout in or something if you're in the area. We should be out quite a bit now that the weather is beginning to cooperate. I may even get a chance to take some pictures of all my cool peeps out there and upload them to my twitter and here. What do you think.
Well drop by and say hello if you get the opportunity. Monday at Coney Island on the boardwalk as Good Day New York has our little "Beach Week." You could get up here like Misty here below, my new friend I met on the upper east side.
Check Y'all!!
There was something popping at the Black Culinary Arts Gala on Satuday night. Literally, something was making a popping sound in the mouths of everyone at my table. Since I was surrounded by folks in the food business someone quickly pointed to a little, tiny flower in our first course. Could that little thing be behind the jolt we got? I went inside the kitchen in search of an answer.
First time posting to the new web site blogs. Let's see what we can do!
Sunny and Cold my friends. The rain returns Friday!!
We were tipped off on this story by a mother who told us her son was taken into custody when he was picked up by cops while skipping school one day. She says he was released to her custody and not charged with any crime, but she was still furious with her son for cutting class.
But something else made her even angrier, she tells us when she read the N.Y.P.D. “Prisoner’s Property Form” handed to her son at Central Booking, she couldn’t believe her eyes, so she logged on to myfoxny.com and told Fox 5 News her story
On the form, under the words PROPERTY – DESCRIBE there are boxes that can be checked off by an N.Y.P.D. police officer. Included on the pre-printed form are general items like: shoe laces, pen, lighter, hand bag, BELTS, KEYS, and NAIL CLIPPER, but the box for AFRO PICK has some people calling the document racist.

Should the term “AFRO PICK” be removed from the form? Cast your vote in the Fox 5 News Poll and sound off by leaving a comment below.
